This walk will take place on one of our favourite walk destinations, Lerderderg Gorge. Our kids love it, and we know yours will too! It’s a stunning location that you can both enjoy.
At this stage we at only excepting one child per parent, the main reasons for this is that the parent will need to carry the load of gear, food and water for both of you, and most hiking tents are only for two people. If you are the parent of twins, or children close together in age, or there is no supervision at home for your second child, please email us for special consideration. We do have other parent and child events on the calendar if you want to book in some one on one time with each of your children.
This adventure is for kids aged between 10 – 18.
Mackenzies Flat Picnic Area, Lerderderg Gorge Road. Coimadai 3340
This is a great way to get your kids to accompany you on an overnight hike, share your passion and love for fresh air, sunshine, being fit and importantly enjoying screen free time. This walk is the perfect opportunity to teach the kids that there is plenty of ways to have fun outdoors and without technology. We are only going to become more and more technology driven, and the earlier kids can learn how fantastic switching off can be, the better it will be for them long term.
Better yet perhaps you are interested in getting into bushwalking and camping yourself, and need a partner in crime! Who better to have for adventures than your child!
This adventure is for kids aged between 10 – 18. If we get enough demand there is a possibility of splitting the group so we could do a younger and an older group, making the walks that little bit more age appropriate. Regardless both walking options will be fun, and a great challenge for everyone.
We recommend keeping your bags to a minimum weight as this will make your walk much more enjoyable. Depending on the walk and the number of people, our guides may need assistance in carrying some of the food so you could expect to pack another 1-3kg into your rucksacks.
Although this is part of the challenge of bushwalking, we want to make sure that everyone feels confident this is something they can achieve.
We have enough gear to assist a group of up to 12 people, including two-person tents, sleeping mats and rucksacks. Please note we do not loan out sleeping bags, but can assist with a location for hiring, or assistance in purchasing. This is all included in your fee.
Where possible please bring what you have gear wise, and if you aren’t sure about anything then get in touch! We can answer any question you might have. To have a look at a pack list, please see our FAQ page.
We prepare all the healthy real food and bring the cooking gear. We are parents to 4 children and realise that they can be a little picky, we will ignore this to the best of our ability ;). However, we will provide yummy snacks like slices, biscuits and lollies, and hide the vegetables in Bolognese and rice or pasta dishes so they will have no idea.
We recommend you carry 2-3 litres per person depending on the weather and we will provide high-grade UV sterilisation equipment to filter water for cooking and consumption.
