In this walk, we will take on the East-West Trail in the You Yangs (Flinders Peak)

If you are in need of an escape from the urban landscape and want to find yourself surrounded by stunning views then the You Yangs is just like a dream come true. The East West Walk has been rated as one of the Top 10 Walks Around Melbourne.

What to Expect

Starting at the north end of the carpark the walk circumnavigates Flinders Peak, the highest Mountain in the You Yangs, allowing full panoramic views in every direction by the time you reach the summit. The walk is a gentle climb to the peak, where we will stop to enjoy an indulgent, but delicious bite to eat, with the backdrop of Melbourne’s skyline.

As we navigate back down surrounded by the distinctive granite peaks of the You Yangs, you will be greeted with views of the volcanic plains between Melbourne and Geelong that make up this unique part of Victoria.

Getting there: You Yangs Regional Park is 55km southwest of the Melbourne CBD, taking around an hour to get there by car. Anyone from Geelong can expect to get to the You Yangs within half an hour.

Access to the park from the Princess Freeway is clearly signposted via Lara.

What to Bring
  • Large drink bottle, or two normal drink bottles on a hot day.
  • A small backpack
  • Medication, camera etc
  • Hat, or beanie
  • Sturdy walking boots or trail shoes or runners.
  • Walking clothes, we generally recommend shorts or light pants with layers for your upper body.
